Info
pallet containers
An info container is a container with one or more embedded
microchips that can store data about the container and its
contents. The advantage over other forms of data storage,
such as bar coding, is that info containers are free from
external impacts.
Installation and erasing
The microchip is embedded in the container wall during manufacture
or at a later stage. A sensor deliveries electronic read-only
and erasable data for the microchip.
Reading
Data can then be read on site with a palmtop or other device
and sent to the relevant employees’ workstations.
Application
After reading a computer onboard ship stores details of
the container’s content. Data are then sent electronically
to the appropriate computer on land, e.g. at an auction
market and the fish can be put for sale while still at sea.
During landing, its ID code is read and the container delivered
to the corresponding customer. If the fish is to be sent
for processing, a forklift fitted with a special device
reads the data and sends it to the appropriate storage.
