The History Of Borgarplast

1971

Borgarplast is established in Borgarnes, a small town on the west coast of Iceland. Manufacture of Polystyrene (EPS) products for the building industry.

1983

A rotational moulding division is founded in Kópavogur, a neighbouring town to Reykjavík, to produce Polyethylene (PE) products for the food and construction industry.

1986

Export of insulated Plastic Bulk Containers starts.

1988

The company headquarters are moved to Seltjarnarnes, a neighbouring town to Reykjavík.

1989

Borgarplast becomes the second rotational moulding company in the world to use expanded PE as a solid insulation layer in recyclable tubs to increase their strength.

1993

The rotational moulding division receives ISO 9001 quality certification.

1994

EPS products division receives the same certification.

1996

Production capacity for PE products triples. Exports exceed domestic sale.

1998

Borgarplast exports to 40 countries worldwide on a yearly basis.

1999

The rotational moulding division receives ISO 14001 environmental certification. Borgarplast steps up to a 80-85% domestic market share for insulated Plastic Bulk Containers. New insulated Plastic Bulk Containers, tailored to ISO 6780, are marketed.

2007

The Polystyrene (EPS) section of the company is moved from Borgarnes to its current location at Voluteigur 31-31A in Mosfellsbaer, a neighbouring town to Reykjavík.

2008

By the end of the year the rotational moulding section of the company is also moved to Voluteigur 31-31A in Mosfellsbaer. The company is united at the same location after 37 years of history.

2010

Borgarplast receives permission to CE mark four product types for the construction industry after a strict investigating process. Those products are septic tanks, oil separators, fat separators and polystyrene insulation boards (EPS).
